Privacy Policy

SoMeFilm is the data controller responsible for your personal data under the EU GDPR and the UK GDPR. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights.

2. Data we collect, why, and the legal basis

• Email address and hashed password — to create and secure your account. Legal basis: contract (providing the service you signed up for).
• Your film ratings (liked / disliked / not seen) — compared with other users' ratings to compute your recommendations, shown only to you. Legal basis: contract.
• Sign-in session token (in a cookie) — to keep you signed in and enable sign-out. Legal basis: contract.
• Your IP address — to show film availability for your region (via IP2Location.io) and for security. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
• Account data from Google or Facebook — only if you choose social sign-in, to authenticate you. Legal basis: consent.

Providing your email and password is required to create an account; you cannot use the service without them. Social sign-in is optional.

3. Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We share it only as needed to run the service:

• The Movie Database (TMDB) — film data and poster images. Our server calls TMDB; your personal data is not sent.
• Google / YouTube — trailer embeds load directly in your browser; YouTube may receive your IP address and set its own cookies.
• Bunny Fonts — web fonts, loaded from your browser. EU-based; sets no tracking cookies.
• IP2Location.io — maps your IP address to a region for "where to watch". Only the IP and the resulting region are used.
• Our hosting provider Hostinger — stores the service and its databases.
• Google / Facebook — only if you use social sign-in, to authenticate you.

Some recipients are located outside the EU/UK (e.g. TMDB, Google/YouTube, Facebook). Where this happens we rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the recipient is certified, or on Standard Contractual Clauses.

4. How long we keep it

We keep your account and ratings for as long as your account is active. Your IP address is used transiently for geolocation. When you delete your account, your email, password and ratings are erased. Sign-in cookies are removed when you log out or close your browser.

5. Your rights

Under the EU and UK GDPR you have the right to:

• access your personal data and receive a copy;
• have inaccurate data corrected;
• have your data erased ("right to be forgotten");
• restrict or object to our processing;
• receive your data in a portable format;
• withdraw consent at any time (for consent-based processing, such as social sign-in);
• not be subject to decisions based solely on automated processing that significantly affect you.

Recommendations are generated automatically from your ratings but have no legal or similarly significant effect on you. To exercise any right, email info@somefilm.net. We respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response you may complain to your national data protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
